Maha Art Techo

Weeks Hardcover Book

Weeks Book (Japanese / January Start)

This Hobonichi Techo Weeks was created together with novelist Maha Harada. It includes pages unique to this edition—including 12 essays written by Harada—and a pencil board. The book is Harada’s way of making art and museums more accessible and enjoyable to everyone.

The book cover features the painting “The Dream” by French painter Henri Rousseau. The painting is a major key to the story in Maha’s novel La toile du paradis. The original painting, which measures about two meters tall and three meters wide and is stored at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, has been designed to fit into this palm-sized version you can carry with you. The cover material is made of cloth to evoke the feel of a painting canvas.

The cover is foil-pressed in white-silver with the words “2023 Maha Art Techo.”

Half of the back cover is black, and lists credits for Henri Rousseau’s “The Dream” painting.

When you open the book, the endpaper is a calming gray and contains a message written by Harada.

The theme of this techo is “Museum Visits with Maha.” She strives to make people comfortable enough to swing by the museum for a visit the same way they might make an impromptu visit to see a close friend. The Maha Art Techo has 16 pages covering the topic of museums, and is meant not only for people who already love the museum, but for beginners in order to guide them on how to enjoy art in a lighthearted way. (Unlike the standard Weeks book, there are only 55 graph paper pages in the back of the book.)

Another nice bonus with this edition is the pencil board also featuring art from the painting "The Dream" by Henri Rousseau. A part of the original 2 x 3 meter painting has been trimmed nearly in its original size to fit onto the pencil board. It’s nice to look at this pencil board and imagine the size and powerful presence of the original painting. The back of the pencil board is an eye-catching yellow to match the atmosphere of the painting, and the edge of the pencil board is marked so it can be used as a ruler.

The Maha Art Techo is designed so you can experience all the emotions that come from enjoying Rousseau’s mysterious art, as well as visit various art museums alongside Maha Harada. This Weeks is great for using as your everyday techo, of course, but you can also use it as a “Museum Visit Techo” to write about art you’ve seen and museums you’ve visited.

When you order this Hobonichi Techo Weeks, you’ll receive a clear, adhesive corner pocket you can stick anywhere you like.
